LAST SATURDAY night definitely belonged to petite Sabahan Stracie Angie Anam when she emerged champion of Akademi Fantasia 6 at the packed Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, Selangor.
The 18-year-old had the audience rooting for her superb vocals and stage performance, soon after she performed her first ballad Atas Nama Cinta and the brand new song Aku Stacy.
Big winner: Akademi Fantasia 6 champion Stracie Angie Anam or Stacy, as she is more popularly known, wants to record an album that can showcase her versatility as a singer.
Even the critics for the night – Fauziah Ahmad Daud, Ning Baizura and Adlin Aman Ramlie – were full of praise for the talented Kadazan girl from Penampang, Sabah.
Stacy, as she is known on the TV show, had been leading the pack in terms of SMS votes since the seventh concert (there were 10 in all) and members of the media were pretty sure that unless the girl performed horribly at the finals, she would triumph over the rest.
And what great news for Sabahans. After waiting for four seasons, Stacy managed to make them proud.
Every year, since the second season of Akademi Fantasia, there have been at least three participants from Sabah who have managed to reach the finals, never winning the top spot, though.
These included Adam, Linda and Mas (from AF2), Felix, Yazer, Marsha and Ekin (from AF3), Lotter, Velvet, Rich, and Nora (AF4), and Noni, Ebi and Candy (AF5). That’s quite a number of talented Sabahans!
The official results of the final showed that Stacy received the most SMS votes, and it was a massive win too with 43%! (The next closest competitor was Mohammed Idris Mohd Zaizizi (Riz) with 18 % of the votes.
Stacy, a part-time singer in Penampang, received prizes valued at RM733,734, which includes a four-room bungalow at A Famosa, Malacca, a Peugeot 307 XS sponsored by Naza Motors, RM25,000 cash from Hotlink, holiday package to Italy sponsored by Mayfirst, and to New York by Maybelline. She also took home a Sony Playstation sponsored by Astro and the AF6 trophy.
“I really don’t know what to say except I’m very grateful and thankful to God,” said Stacy in tears, on Saturday night after she’d picked up her prize.
“I just can’t wait to share my win with my family. This is the first time that someone in my family has won something big.
“I just can’t wait to see my family’s reaction!” said Stacy.
Prior to AF6, Stacy had teamed up with her brother, Camellus De’lelli Anam, for another talent-reality show called Gang Starz (Season One) and they managed to reach the semi-finals before they were booted out.
“I don’t think I’m better than the rest,” Stacy humbly offered. “I’m just lucky tonight. I believe that all my four friends in the finals are really good.

“All five of us must have our own strengths to have gotten this far.”
Stacy remembers vividly the advice principal Ramli MS had been drilling into them all this while.
“He said, ‘You think you are good but there are people out there who are much better than you’,” Stacy said, adding that through the show, she had many experiences to savour.
“I have learned so much here at the Academy, especially from the principal and the teachers. They have taught me a lot and I don’t know how I can repay them.
“Hopefully, one day, I will know how to and I will be given a chance to return their kindness.”
Stacy is upset that she will have to leave her new-found friends at the Academy after more than two months of living together and bonding. But she’s got a lot to look forward to as well.
Now that she has won, she would love to record an album.
“If the opportunity arises, I want an album that features different genres such as rock, ballad, jazz and R&B because I want to hone my versatility,” said Stacy.
For those who have been watching Diari Akademi Fantasia (the weekly diary-type programme in between AF performance shows) they would surely have noticed that Stacy was the most hard-working student at the Academy.
“Am I really hard-working? I guess I went to the Academy because I wanted to learn.
“At the Academy, I was given the chance to gain knowledge for 10 weeks and I didn’t want to waste that chance,” said the petite girl (she stands at 155cm) who hopes to be able to sit for her SPM exam soon.
“I missed out on the exam last year because I was juggling between singing part-time and schooling and at the end, I quit school to earn money to help out my family,” said Stacy, the fifth of six siblings.
“I did not quit school because I like singing more. It was more because of financial constraints faced by my parents (father Anam Bayar and mother Agnes Kaloos are both odd-job workers) that I decided to pursue singing.”
Before the next hurdle, however, Stacy will have lots of time to savour her current win.
“I’m still digesting the whole experience of AF6 and actually winning! I’m just so happy and proud and can’t wait to see my family!”

AMERICA has just crowned its seventh Idol. On the local front, tomorrow will see the winner of the sixth season of the highly popular talent show Akademi Fantasia 6 (AF6).
At a glance, all five finalists – Nadia Haswani Hasnan (Nadia), 18, Mohamed Idris Zaizizi (Riz), Stracie Angie Anam (Stacy), 18, Khairul Nizam Baharom (Toi), 31, and Ahmad Nubhan Ahmad (Nubhan), 22 – stand an equal chance at grabbing the coveted prize of RM800,000.
A recap of what has transpired over the last few months is in order, though. The new season of Akademi Fantasia started with a bang when Astro announced that the initial auditions attracted 6,000. The figure was quickly whittled down to 25 hopefuls, all of whom were put through the three-day preliminary rounds to make it to a team of 14 students to enter the academy.
Khairul Nizam Baharom (Toi)
Hopes for the show have been high, given the participation of new hosts – singer-actor-TV personality AC Mizal and actress-singer Sarimah Ibrahim. Adding to the prestige of the reality-based programme were top-notch professionals and trainers like Anita Sarawak (stage performance consultant), Siti Hajar Ismail (vocal technique), Syafizawati Sharif (vocal performance), Linda Jasmine (choreography), Jasmi Rejab (fashion consultant), Fatimah Abu Bakar (motivation councillor/ English trainer), Fauziah Nawi (performing arts) and violinist-composer Genervie Kam (vocal trainer/ musician/ band leader of the show). The no-nonsense Ramli M.S. also returned for a second time as the academy’s principal, reprising his role from AF2.
Then came the nine weeks of elimination rounds which saw nine students axed. After watching them a few times on Diari AF (a complementary diary-type programme which traces the activities of the students throughout the week between performance and elimination shows) – goofing around mostly – it was a bit disappointing to see who had made the final five (apart from Stacy and Nadia who are blessed with powerful vocals) out of 6,000 hopefuls.

One wonders if some miscalculations had occurred along the way and if the real talents had slipped through the cracks of the system, making way instead for a group of playful students to be in the limelight.
All the same, each finalist is bound to have his or her fan club (albeit without the student’s knowledge as, stuck at the Akademi, they have been denied any contact with the outside world since March 16). And the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil should be home to a riotous display of colours and banners displaying support for the finalists at tomorrow’s finale.
Expectedly, many fans want Nadia, Stacy and Riz to grab the top three places. Having said that, in the last two concerts, Toi and Nubhan ended up with strong votes as well. For their final performances tomorrow, each contestant will perform two songs, including one previously unreleased track.

Nadia Haswani Hasnan (Nadia)
Nadia: Nadia is vocally accomplished and, in the past nine weeks, she has performed well and deservedly secured a place in the finals. Her weekly performances have garnered praise from the judges. Blessed with great vocal prowess, Nadia will perform Aku Lebih Tahu (made popular by Mila of AF5) and a new song, Karut Lagi Mengarut during the finals.
Stacy: A quick look at the weekly official AF votes reveals that Stacy has always been in the top three, with her consistent performances, all of which have gained kudos from the judges.
With her excellent sense of choreography, determination and powerful vocals, Stacy is expected to come up tops in the finals in which she will perform Atas Nama Cinta (Rossa) and Siti Lela vs Cinderella.
Toi: Following eight weeks of mediocrity, Toi surprised everyone with his excellent show at the ninth concert on May 17, an effort that propelled him to the top of the AF charts for the first time ever. If he keeps up with this momentum tomorrow, he may well be crowned champion of AF6. He will perform Cinta Zulaikha (Mawi) and Paling Terindah for the finals.
Ahmad Nubhan Ahmad (Nubhan)
Nubhan: Despite all the hype over the soft-spoken Nubhan, I personally feel that he has a long way to go before he can be champion. But then again, with the results solely determined by SMS votes, anything can happen. For the grand finals, Nubhan will perform Bukan Di Sini (Sofaz) and Ada Untukmu.
Riz: One of the most versatile students of the current season, Riz has to nail his songs at the finals to become Stacy’s most serious contender. For the finals, Riz will belt out 11 Januari (Gigi) and Hanya Sandiwara.
The Akademi Fantasia 6 grand finals will be held at Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, Selangor, tomorrow at 9pm and will be aired live on Astro Ria (Astro channel 104).

SEJAK dinobatkan sebagai juara Akademi Fantasia 6 (AF6) 24 Mei lalu, kehidupan Stacy melalui episod baru, angan-angan merasai kesenangan untuk dikongsi bersama keluarga akhirnya menjadi realiti di pentas AF6. Ketika dia leka wajahnya disolek untuk pertama kali bagi tujuan komersial di akhbar sebaik keluar akademi, dia terus membuka bicara latar belakang keluarga tanpa berselindung.
Agak mengejutkan kerana Stacy seorang yang bersikap terbuka berbicara apa saja mengenai kepincangan hidup keluarganya. Rupa-rupanya selama ini Stacy bijak menyembunyikan kedaifan keluarganya ketika dia masih bergelar pelajar AF6 dan tidak pernah terlintas di sanubarinya meraih undi simpati, sebaliknya peminat menobatkannya sebagai juara semata-mata kerana bakat dan usaha keras.
“Saya lebih suka berterus-terang, biarlah orang tahu bagaimana latar belakang keluarga saya daripada orang bercakap perkara yang bukan-bukan di kemudian hari. Pengalaman sebelum ini banyak mengajar saya. Dari dulu keluarga kami tak pernah hidup senang, sentiasa dibelenggu kesusahan.
“Apabila keluarga dilabel sebagai orang miskin, memang saya malu, muka saya tebal berdepan masyarakat sekeliling. Apa yang kami lakukan, ada saja yang tak kena, malah keluarga kami turut dihina dan menjadi bahan cacian orang. Saya tahan saja, terus bersabar. Dalam kampung saya, memang keluarga kami paling susah, ditambah masalah yang wujud dalam keluarga.
“Lebih baik saya berterus-terang saja. Lagipun saya ingin berkongsi pengalaman keperitan hidup saya dengan orang lain kerana yakin, hidup ini tidak akan sentiasa dirundung kegelapan. Pasti ada setitik cahaya jika kita terus berusaha memperbaiki taraf kehidupan.
“Jika ada orang lain yang pernah mengalami nasib seperti saya, harap-harap mereka tidak mudah putus asa kerana jika ada kesungguhan, pasti ada kejayaan. Bayangkan saya mempunyai enam beradik, kami semua tidak bersekolah berdepan pula dengan masalah sosial, ditambah ayah dan ibu saya sering bertengkar.
“Ayah pula sering tak pergi kerja, kerja satu, dua hari saja, kemudian tak pergi. Ibu saja seorang saja yang bekerja untuk menanggung kami sekeluarga. Dia terpaksa berhutang untuk membesarkan kami adik beradik. Sebab itu saya terpaksa berhenti sekolah untuk membantu meringankan beban ibu. Sebelum berhenti sekolah lagi, saya sudah menyanyi separuh masa di kelab malam untuk menambah pendapatan keluarga.
Lega keluarga tidak terus dihina
“SAYA nekad berhenti sekolah untuk melihat adik meneruskan persekolahannya. Adik beradik yang lain tidak bekerja, jadi saya harus berkorban kerana dengan menyanyi saja, boleh mendatangkan pendapatan agak lumayan. Saya tak mahu keluarga kami hidup berpecah belah gara-gara kemiskinan. Saya mahu mengubah nasib keluarga, jadi sekalipun dalam keadaan terpaksa, saya akur untuk berhenti sekolah.
“Pada mulanya memang ayah dan ibu saya membantah dengan keputusan saya, tapi nak buat macam mana, kami tak ada duit. Namun, saya sempat berjanji dengan ayah dan ibu, suatu hari apabila nasib keluarga kita sudah berubah, saya pasti menyambung persekolahan dan menduduki peperiksaan Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
“Namun, apabila saya menyertai AF6, makin ramai orang ingin mendekati keluarga kami dan menghulurkan bantuan. Mulanya saya risau juga meninggalkan keluarga apabila menerima tawaran AF6 kerana saya seorang saja yang cari duit ketika itu. Tapi, hari ini segala-galanya sudah berubah. Kemenangan saya membela nasib keluarga, saya tidak mahu keluarga kami terus dihina dan nampaknya permintaan saya termakbul.
“Dari dulu saya mengimpikan kejayaan, sudahlah sekolah tidak habis, jadi apabila ada peluang baru menimba ilmu nyanyian di akademi, saya gunakan sepenuhnya. Di AF6 adalah peluang terbesar bagi saya. Saya mahu merebut ilmu yang dicurahkan semua tenaga pengajar dengan harapan saya membawa kejayaan. Nampaknya angan-angan saya untuk bergelar juara AF6 menjadi kenyataan!,” kata Stacy yang masih pekat dengan dialek Sabah.
Tiga kali cinta monyet
BAGAIMANA dengan pengaruh negatif ketika bekerja sebagai penyanyi pub dan cinta lelaki hidung belang?
“Memang saya tak nafikan, sejak saya menyanyi di kelab malam, banyak pengaruh buruk mendekati saya. Tapi, saya tahan kerana saya fikir masih ada tanggung jawab terhadap keluarga. Ada juga orang yang ingin mendekati saya, tapi bagi saya belum masanya lagi, saya masih ‘kuno’ untuk mengenali cinta. Kalau ada orang datang mencari cinta, saya lari! Tumpuan saya dari dulu hingga kini ialah kerjaya, cinta akan datang bila tiba masa.
“Cinta monyet? Mestilah ada, ketika itu zaman persekolahan. Rasanya tak adalah sampai tahap bercinta, hanya kawan baik saja. Tapi, sekejap saja kami berkawan. Masa sekolah dulu saya ni seorang yang kasar, cakap kuat-kuat, lelaki pula menyukai perempuan yang lemah lembut, romantik, mungkin sebab itu kami berpisah. Tapi, kalau nak dikira betul-betul, pengalaman cinta monyet saya adalah dalam tiga kali!,” katanya tergelak besar.
