MacIntyre was eliminated

Scott MacIntyre, a visually impaired singer from Scottsdale, Ariz., whose inspirational story was a major plot line on “American Idol” this season, was eliminated from the show Wednesday night, leaving seven signers in the competition.

MacIntyre was eliminated instead of college student Anoop Desai by a margin of 30,000 votes out of 34 million cast.

Joining MacIntyre and Desai in the bottom three was Lil Rounds, but she was sent back to safety.

Although the singer with the least viewer votes is eliminated, judges this season have the power to exercise a veto over the viewers’ judgment, but only once during the competition. The judges opted not to use their veto to save MacIntyre, as judge Simon Cowell sent him off with his usual curt, “Sorry.”

The competition returns next week with Desai and Rounds trying to hold their own against remaining contestants Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta, Matt Giraud and Danny Gokey.
