Manchester United winger Park Ji-sung has been named to the team’s roster for the Champions League.
The three-time defending champion of the English Premier League (EPL) announced its list of 35 players for Europe’s most prestigious club football competition and the 28-year-old was among those named, along with midfielders Nani, Antonio Valencia and Gabriel Obertan.
Since joining Alex Ferguson’s side in 2005, the South Korean international has had a chance to play in the event for five straight years.
Park, who became the first Asian footballer to play in the final of the Champions League last year after starting against FC Barcelona in a 2-0 loss, has scored two goals in the event.
Park netted a goal in last year’s semifinals against another English outfit Arsenal and in 2005, while playing for PSV Eindhoven of the Dutch league, he scored against AC Milan in the penultimate round.
Ferguson named new recruit Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Federico Macheda in the attacking unit, while Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Gary Neville, Patrice Evra, Wes Brown and John O’Shea will play on the defensive line.
Ryan Giggs, Owen Hargreaves, Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher have also made the team.
Edwin Van der Sar, Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak will be used in goal.
Along with 25 players, the Red Devils also registered 10 additional players, including Anderson and Jonny Evans, who were born after Jan. 1, 1988 and have spent two years with the club.
The 2007 champion has been drawn with PFC CSKA Moskva, Besiktas JK and VfL Wolfsburg in Group B.
