Filibuster is best friend of Republicans

I feel bad for America. I still have great hope for President Barack Obama. He wanted health care for all, and sadly we got the Pelosi-Reid Democratic version of health care.

Obama truly wanted a bipartisan Congress, and all that every Republican gave us was the word “no.” Their idea of being bipartisan is saying the word bipartisan often without ever trying to be bipartisan.

A Republican has won the election for senator in Massachusetts, and the candidate’s claim to fame is that he drives a truck. He ran against a Democrat who thought she didn’t need to campaign because it was Teddy Kennedy’s seat and she thought she was a shoo-in.

Republicans are thrilled they won and therefore can deny this nation the health care plan and everything else Obama wants to legislate. A simple majority vote in this country is no longer acceptable. Now you need a super-majority of 60 votes in the Senate.

Currently, the filibuster is considered to be the best friend of Republicans. And Democrats will use it again when a Republican eventually becomes president.

I would like to make a suggestion. Pass a bill outlawing the filibuster. Allow for a one-time-per-presidential-term filibuster, to allow for great legislation to be truly bipartisan. After that exception, a simple majority is all that is required to pass legislation. Let this bill go into effect in the year 2020, so no political party has any advantage.

Then maybe our politicians will think of us first, instead of just trying to keep their jobs and just saying “no” to everything.
