Office star Ricky Gervais is set to make Hollywood history tonight as he hosts the first ever Golden Globes to be screened live.
The British star will also be the first compere ever to host the whole ceremony – the first major bash of the Hollywood awards season.
The Globes are often seen as a good indicator of what will do well at the Oscars and unsurprisingly it’s the big blockbusters heading the field.
Sky will be covering the red carpet action as well as the awards themselves with hosts Claudia Winkleman and Gethin Jones.
James Cameron’s £145m computer generated adventure Avatar has a number of nominations.
The Hurt Locker, about a bomb disposal team in Iraq, is also nominated in a several categories.
But perhaps the most hotly tipped movie with six nominations is Up in the Air, starring George Clooney.

It’s a timely tale in which he plays a man who’s job it is to fire people.
Flying the flag for Britain and Ireland are Helen Mirren, Daniel Day-Lewis, Hugh Laurie, Kenneth Branagh, Brendan Gleeson and Jeremy Irons.
Taling about hosting the awards, Gervais said: “I’m not going to be reading shtick from an autocue. I’m not going to worry about offending anyone, but I’m not going to go out there to grab headlines or insult anyone.
“Anything I think of on the night, I’m going to act on it. I’m probably going to go around the room talking about the biggest stars on the planet.”
