Fresh faces dominate this years finalists in the 24th Anugerah Juara Lagu.
IT is only a couple of weeks to go before we meet the new champion of the prestigious 24th Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL).
Undoubtedly, after two decades, TV3’s AJL is still a popular annual music competition, featuring the best musical and lyrical compositions of the year.
For the uninitiated, nominees for AJL are derived from a list of local songs which have garnered the most public votes in weekly episodes of Muzik Muzik throughout the year. These are then contested in the semi-finals, from which 12 songs are nominated by a panel of judges to enter the grand finals.
New acts dominant: New singer Black is competing in the 24th Anugerah Juara Lagu which will be held at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil in January.
This year’s finalists display a domination of new and fresh acts, a positive development in the industry.
Apart from established singers Misha Omar, Faizal Tahir and Estranged, this year’s finalists comprises new faces such as Alyah, Aizat. Hafiz, Stacy, Akim, Bunkface, Yuna, Black, Tomok and Hujan.
With Music Unfolds as the theme for this year, the event that will be taking place on Jan 10 will be co-hosted by Cheryl Samad, Faizal Ismail and Ally Iskandar. It will be aired live (9pm till 11.30pm) from Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, preceded by the red carpet at 7.30pm.
And here’s good news for fans. Apart from the live telecast on TV3, viewers can also log on to tv3.com.my and gua.com.my to catch the action live.
For aspiring singers, you should turn up at the stadium early as there will be a singing competition which offers cash prizes of between RM300 and RM1,000 from 4.30pm onwards.

The winner of the Song Of The Year will walk away with RM35,000 cash and a trophy, the first runner-up will receive RM12,000 cash and a trophy and the second runner-up will take home RM10,000 and a trophy.
On top of that, there will be RM10,000 cash and a trophy each for Best Performance and Best Vocals.
The 24th Anugerah Juara Lagu will be aired live from Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, on TV3 on Jan 10 at 9pm.
