Rock icon Amy Search will be doing something completely out of his comfort zone come March when he takes to the stage.
He will be performing the lead role in the musical – Suatu Masa Amy – with the National Symphony Orchestra, to be held at Istana Budaya from March 26 to 28.
New challenge: Amy will be taking on the lead in a musical about him.
The musical is centred on Amy (full name Suhaimi Abdul Rah-man) and his personal journey through life.
“This is not a rock concert. It’s a combination of theatre and musical. I will be backed by a 40-piece orchestra.
“It’s completely new to me because I have not done anything like this throughout my career in music,” said Amy in a press conference yesterday.
Amy, who made a name for himself as the frontman of popular rock group Search, hopes to break new ground with this musical.
“The show is an opportunity for me to present a new statement.
“I am known as a rocker for the last three decades but now I’ll be performing at Istana Budaya.
“I hope the show will set a benchmark. It will be a new experience for my fans as well,” he added.
The show’s music director, Mohd Rafi Shafie, is in charge of interpreting the contemporary songs to fit a symphony orchestra while the musical director is actress and host Fauziah Ahmad Daud.
