World Cup Finals in South Africa from June 11-July 11

ootball crazy Malaysians, who made a beeline to view the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy on display here on Friday, put a stake on their favourite team to lift the title.

Quite a number of them picked Germany and Brazil to win the World Cup.

“After having won the 2008 European Cup, Germany are in top form. Germany players like Micheal Ballack (Chelsea) and Miroslav Klose (Bayern Munich) are playing for top European clubs,” said Wan Meswar Wan Ahmad, who works in the private sector.

A government pensioner, A.Muniandy said Germany would capitalise on their vast experience this time around.

Event manager Ian Khoo, 27, said Germany had a high level team spirit and their league was one of the most challenging in Europe.

On the other hand, teacher Syed Abdul Hafiz, 27, said Brazil would dazzle the pitch with their samba dance and legendary dribbling skills.

The World Cup trophy tour is sponsored by Coca-Cola ahead of the World Cup Finals in South Africa from June 11-July 11.

Present were South African High Commissioner to Malaysia Sisa Ngombane and British High Commissioner to Malaysia Boyd McCleary.
