Two million iPhone customers in the UK

After over two years of selling the iPhone, O2 has released figures claiming to have sold two million of the leading smartphone device.

Apple has a lot to thank O2 for as the mobile operator today claimed to have sold over two million of its flagship iPhone devices in the UK.

A spokesperson from O2 told IT PRO: “We have over two million iPhone customers in the UK with Christmas 2009 being one of our strongest periods for iPhone sales.”

O2 got the exclusivity deal for the iPhone back in 2007, although this was broken in October with Orange getting rights to the device, followed by Tesco Mobile and Vodafone.

Although O2 saw network difficulties over the past year, with an O2 executive admitting the iPhone had put pressure on the network, it hasn’t stopped the mobile provider breaking records with its sales of the device.

Yet with Vodafone selling 100,000 in its first week, the company’s head start will only last so long.
